First, we must agree that housing is one of the most important aspects of health and wellness. Not only will I support housing first policies to end homelessness, but also I will support innovative policies that support homeownership and increased affordable housing construction.

“Every human deserves safe, habitable housing. That’s why the policies that I will create and advocate for will support housing-first.”
Housing First Now:
I am a proponent for HUD and Chicago's Continuum of Care commitment to housing first. It is proven that permanent housing is the first step on the journey of health. I will work to increase funding for supportive services and emergency housing funds.
Pathways to Home Ownership & Support for Home Owners:
Homeownership has been a source of wealth for some and for many owners has been a financial roller coaster that seems to never end. I will support new models of homeownership that are attainable and affordable. Additionally, I will support increased funding for home owner's assistance to reduce financial burdens caused necessary repairs. Ultimately, my goal is to keep more of 6th ward residents in their homes!
Rent Control:
On day one, without any hesitation, I will work to increase affordable housing. Chicago was the only city in the Midwest to make the top 100 when it comes to highest rent. Rising rents and other housing costs, combined with persistent inflation for basic necessities like food and gas, have left more of our neighbors homeless or in fear of losing their homes. I will fight to provide limitations on rent increases at 150% of the consumer price index or 3%, whichever is higher. This will allow landlords to make a return on investment while making rents more affordable.
